Hands of a Sportsman (HOAS) partnered with Deep Woods Hunting Club for a late October Deer Hunt in Moore County. Each member of the club prepared stands to help those less fortunate enjoy a day of deer hunting! “This is our way of giving back and volunteering our time as outdoorsmen,” said Deep Woods president Joshua Dunn.

Each member was assigned a hunter, responsible for helping all participants get to and from the stand safely. The club also provided additional volunteers who served lunch to all guests. Of the nine lucky hunters selected to participate, three were able to harvest deer on the hunt. “These folks want the opportunity to go and hunt,” HOAS Founder David Hinceman said. “We have to thank Deep Woods for participating and helped us create a model that other hunt clubs, in North Carolina and beyond, can follow. Their participation helped change lives.”

Landowner relationship with first paired Hunter

In early November landowner Randy Albertson & hunter Alan Brackett, Hands of a Sportsman's very first paired hunters, tried their luck a second year. Randy has devoted a lot of time, energy and money in creating food plots as well as building an awesome accessible box blind with a heater and a couch in it. Their first evening was more of a bird watch as there were hundreds of birds in the corn field. Late that evening they watched a bobcat wander out in search of a meal but no deer. On the morning of day 2 they hunted a bottle neck in the woods hoping to catch a buck cruising between bedding areas looking for hot does but they would still have to wait. That evening the two went back to the corn field for a short hunt because a large doe showed up just after they left the day before.  Around 5pm the big doe showed back up and Alan sealed the deal dropping her in her tracks. When they retrieved the doe they found out she was missing her right hind foot.

2017 Hands Of A Sportsman Dream Hunts

Hands of a Sportsman was fortunate to provide four Dream Hunts for four hunters. That would not happen without the generosity of our magnificent donor base. We appreciate each and every person who has played a role in our success.

As we position our organization for significant growth in the months and years ahead, we wanted to take a few moments to recap the successful Fall 2017 hunts.

In early October, Hands of a Sportsman partnered with Eastside Lodge Outfitters of Illinois to grant Joel Shytle with a 3-day youth hunt. Even though Joel didn't get his first buck, it provided Joel a experience of a lifetime. Joel finally shot his first buck at the Sawtooth Oak Farms disabled hunt held in early December.

Also in early October, our organization partnered with United Bowhunters of Pennsylvania Disabled Program to provide two lucky kids a hunt of a lifetime. Joseph Yarish of Pennsylvania, and Tucker Hauser from South Carolina were the selected hunters from a pool of ideal candidates. Both were able to shoot their first bucks ever!

Hands of a Sportsman partnered with Wyoming Disabled Hunters in November to make our 4th Dream Hunt possible for William Hatley from North Carolina. William battled the cold weather and snow in his track chair to shoot his first Mule Deer buck.

None of these hunts were possible without the generosity of our partners and those who support Hands of a Sportsman! Thank You for helping us

With your support, we look forward to a successful 2018.

Hands of a Sportsman hosted its 2nd Annual Youth Deer Hunt on Sept. 23. HOAS partnered with The Land Trust for Central North Carolina and the National Wild Turkey Federation of Davie County, providing a day of hunting on 1,100 acres along the beautiful Yadkin River in Davie County.

The hunt hosted 16 kids along with mentors, volunteers and family members overseeing each hunter for a safe and fun filled day in the woods. The youth harvested 4 deer and 1 wild pig on the hunt along with a meal provided for lunch. More importantly, each kid learned about safety, conservation and got the chance to enjoy the outdoors with their family.

On Sept, 9 2017 our mentors, guides and volunteers pulled off our first HOAS disabled hunt and showed up with smilies on and ready to help in anyway. There is so many people to thank for their support and help. Big thank you to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for sponsoring this hunt, the cooks stood over boiling oil and hot cookers and fed over 250 folks at lunch and 200 for supper, all the ladies chipped in and made desserts, served food and sold 50/50 tickets. Our guides were awesome and we shot a total of 10 deer in one day!! We had local business that donated to our first shirt in memory of Anthony Barnes that was a huge success. So many smiling faces yesterday and some tears of happiness from folks seeing our mission for the first time. Last, we want to thank Guy Mundy for having such a big heart and his hard work organizing this hunt, guides and hunters.
