3rd Annual Anthony Barnes Disabled Taylorsville Hunt

The 3rd Annual Anthony Barnes Memorial Hunt was one of the best events we've been apart of yet! From the fellowship to the folks sharing testimonies, great music food and the motorcycles that rolled for lunch. We also had several stunt riders to put on a show riding wheelies and then a burn out till the tire blew. What an experience for all involved. The biker guys & gals also donated a large amount of money to help support our mission. Folks came from all over Saturday to share the experience with our 30 hunters. Our hunters had a blast with 17 harvesting deer. Everyone involved had a great time.  Big thanks to all that help doing whatever needed to be done! We can't wait to see what next year brings!

2nd Annual Youth Wallburg Crossbow Hunt

The 2019 deer season has turned out to be a great start for these ten kids that had never shot a deer. Thanks to ten great partners they were able to get everything they need to get in the woods for our hunt and continue to hunt all year long. We only had one hunter shoot his first deer on the day of the hunt but the good news is we have ten awesome mentors to help make sure they shoot their first deer by the end of the season. I am humbled and crazy proud of everyone that has come together the last two years to make sure this hunting heritage, we love so much, continue. Good luck to all the kids for the rest of their hunting career!

ALASKAN TRIP

Jeremy Young, a wounded army veteran, was sponsored by HOAS on an Alaska fishing trip in the remote wilderness of Kodiak Island.  Jeremy was accompanied by Barrett Eatman, a HOAS board member, and Harris Rummage. The trio flew out of Raleigh on August 31. They arrived in the City of Kodiak on September 1.  Shortly after arrival they were given on a tour of the Coast Guard Base in Kodiak. Monday September 2 they took a 30 minute float plane ride by Sea Hawk Air to a cabin on Uganik Lake.  They stayed at the cabin till Saturday September 14 before being flown out and returning home.

The trip involved packing in all gear, food, ice, boat, motor and fuel to last for 12 days.  Jeremy and the others were able to catch a few salmon. They caught Dolly Varden Trout every day till they were tired.  During the time at the lake, they documented 54 Kodiak bear sightings, numerous sightings of bald eagles, a black tail deer and several mountain goats.  The scenery and magnitude of the wilderness was beyond verbal description. The pictures and stories that Jeremy and the others brought back are evidence that the trip was a huge success and truly enjoyed by all.  This was a trip that Jeremy will always remember and cherish.

HOAS would like to recognize Kelly Huffaker at Quality Inn and Roland Murphy and his crew at Sea Hawk Air for their donations and fantastic services that help HOAS provide Jeremy with a dream trip to Alaska.

SPONSOR A DREAM HUNT

4th Annual Youth Hunt

On September 28th HOAS held our 4th Annual Youth Hunt. It was conducted on the Haigler Family Farms in Union and Stanly Counties.

The hunt consisted of 6 first time hunters who had never shot a deer assisted by HOAS guides and their families. This hunt was designed for full family involvement allowing the parents to join in on the hunt.

The day of the hunt temperatures were extremely hot but our first time hunters were still successful shooting 4 deer with plenty of smiles and laughter to go around despite the weather conditions.

Hands of a Sportsman would like to thank the Haigler family for their involvement with our organization and all the guides and volunteers that made this hunt so successful.
